So, how was August?
This month I decided to commit to a routine, like a proper writer. I’ve been writing 500 words every evening and it’s allowed me to feel confident about meeting the schedule for The Nice Guy and the Devil. I’m currently at 70,000 words, which means I should finish the first draft somewhere in October, giving me time for two more drafts with a month’s rest between them.
Those of you that have been beta readers for me, I hope I’ll be getting an early version of The Nice Guy and the Devil to you before Christmas 🤞🎄
Sales-wise, The Florentine continues to perform better than any of my other books, although audiobook sales have completely dried up, which is confusing to me because Kindle sales have had a good long tail (by which I mean the rate at which they’re dropping week-to-week is less than my other books at the same point in their release cycle).
I hope you’ve all managed to have a relaxing summer. Treat yourself to a takeaway or something else nice this week, you’ve earned it.

The Spy in Black (1939) — www.youtube.com
The first collaboration between Powell and Pressburger (A Matter of Life & Death, The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus) is a great little spy thriller set during the First World War. Definitely worth a watch if you’ve never seen it, and a rewatch if you have.
